Foster care is basically a system set up by the government that puts minor children in the care of a neutral party, when their own family cannot take care of them. There is voluntary and involuntary foster care. The voluntary foster care is when a parent cannot take care of their child either willingly or unwillingly. Involuntary foster care can be exercised when a child is taken from their home and away from their parents for their own sense of safety.
To become a foster parent, there are restrictions and requirements that you will have to ask the state you live in for more information if you are interested in becoming a foster parent. The reasons for why a child is placed into foster care will vary and the reason they are placed there cannot determine whether or not you as a foster family will accept the child into your home.
Foster care is a temporary living situation in which the child stays with the foster family until a better-suited situation arises. The foster care is intended to be a temporary solution, but these days, the temporary turns into not so temporary. There are instances where the foster family has come to adopt the foster child because they have formed a familiar bond and sometimes it works out best for the child and the foster parent.
There are instances when a child cannot connect with the foster family and problems arise, in cases like this the child is moved to another foster home, there are sad instances when the child is moved around so much that they have problems in their adult lives. A child might have been the victim of child abuse in the home of his/her parents and that is why they were removed. The child will need extra time to warm up to the foster family, so don’t push and don’t force the child to accept you. In time they will.
